Mayor David Casas

President

City of Los Altos

David Casas, originally raised in Palo Alto, has lived with his family in Los Altos for the past twelve years.  Currently serving as Mayor, he has been a member of the Los Altos City Council since 2003.  Before being elected to the Council, David served four years on the Los Altos Elementary School Board, and four years on Los Altos’ Parks Commission.  David received a MS from Pepperdine University, and a BS from San Jose State University.  In addition to his community activities, he has served on numerous Boards.  Just this past year, David was appointed to the Intero Foundation Board of Directors.  Today, David and his wife, Carol, are in business together as Realtors at Intero Real Estate.

Mayor Kathleen King

1st Vice President
City of Saratoga

A longtime resident of Saratoga, Kathleen King has been a member of the Saratoga Council since 2002.  She worked for Applied Materials in sales and marketing management positions for over 25 years before retiring in 2004.  Known for her dedication to children’s health, she is the Executive Director of Santa Clara Family Health Foundation and is actively engaged in community organization such as the Valley Medical Center Foundation and The Housing Trust.   She has a Bachelors of Science and Commerce Degree in business from Santa Clara University and an Associate Degree in Business Administration from West Valley College.

 

 

 

 

 

Hon. Sam Liccardo

2nd Vice President
City of San Jose

Sam Liccardo has represented San Jose’s downtown district on the City Council since 2007.  He is Chair of the Council's Transportation and Environment Committee, Vice Chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee, and Co-chair of the Envision San Jose 2040 General Plan Update Task Force. Sam also holds leadership positions on several regional agencies, including the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG).  Prior to joining the City Council, Sam served as a prosecutor in the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.  He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, and his Law and Master Degrees from Harvard University. 

 

 

 

 

 

Mayor Melinda Hamilton

Secretary/Treasurer
City of Sunnyvale

Melinda Hamilton has represented Sunnyvale, Seat 5, since 2003.  Prior to joining the Sunnyvale City Council, Melinda worked as a Marketing Manager in several Silicon Valley companies including Lucent Technologies and Cisco Systems.   Melinda is involved with many agencies including the North Valley (NOVA) Job Training Consortium Workforce Board Nomination Committee, Bay Area Council Economic Institute (BACEI), the Grand Boulevard Task Force, and Girls For A Change.  She received her Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Communications and Russian Studies from UC San Diego, and her MBA from Santa Clara University.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hon. Daniel Furtado

Legislative Action Chair
City of Campbell

 

Dan Furtado is a native of Campbell, California, where he has served as a member of the City Council since 1996. He holds a BA degree from San Jose State, Pharm.D Degree from the University of California, and a MPA degree from the University of San Francisco. He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He retired as Colonel after more than 40 years of service in the Army Reserve. He serves on the Executive Board of the Association of Bay Area Governments, and is a Member of the Board of both the League of California Cities and the National League of Cities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mayor Kris Wang

Immediate Past President
City of Cupertino

Kris Wang has served on the Cupertino City Council since 2003 and his lived in Cupertino since 1987.  She holds a B.S. in Statistics, an MBA, and completed graduate studies in Computer Science.  Prior to her election, Kris worked with several high-technology companies, such as Portal Software, Sun Microsystems, and Hewlett-Packard.  She is a current member of the League of California Cities Revenue and Taxation Committee, and former chair and current member of the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Commission.

Doug Schmitz

County/Cities’ Managers  Association Liaison

Doug Schmitz is a native Californian and has over twenty-eight years as a city manager. Since 2007, he has been the city manager of Los Altos. His prior experience is as Assistant City Manager and Community Development Director in Laguna Beach; Assistant City Manager of Bellevue, Washington; City Administrator of Carmel by the Sea and City Manager of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Doug has an MPA from Seattle University. With a lifetime interest in the redevelopment of communities and their downtowns, he is a member of the Urban Land Institute.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Raania Mohsen

Executive Director

Raania Mohsen is a native of the Bay Area and joined the Executive Team in September 2009.  Before working with the Cities Association, Raania worked with Senator Elaine Alquist for 4+ years in her District Office as a Senior District Representative.  She represented the Senator on Health Issues, planned and managed major events and outreach programs, and participated on Advisory Committees as a policy liaison for several organizations including the ACS’s Colon Cancer Free Zone, and Community Health Partnership.  She is active in her community and volunteers regularly at JFS Elementary; she is a JFS PTA member, and a former PTA Board Member.  She received both her Bachelors of Science and MBA Degrees from Santa Clara University.
