- Appointed Dean Chu, Sunnyvale, to the Metropolitan
Transportation Commission to a four-year term, beginning in February 10,
2007
- Appointed Kris Wang, Cupertino, and Barbara Spector, Los Gatos, to the Airport Land Use Commission. Both terms expire in May 2008.
- Appointed Steve Glickman, Los Gatos, to the ABAG Hazardous
Waste Management Facility Allocation Committee to an ongoing term.
- After the appointments were made, the committee passed
Section 5 of the Rules and Regulations of the Santa Clara County City
Selection (CS) Committee: “Appointments. Appointees chosen by the CS
Committee shall be an elected official of a Santa Clara County City or Town at the time of the CS Committee’s appointment.” The previous 4 sections
were passed at the January 2007 meeting.
- Received a presentation from Ken Kirkey, ABAG’s Planning
Director, on “San Francisco Bay Area: Focusing our Vision.” Ken discussed,
answered questions and received input from Board members on making the
connections on Urban Limit Lines and Infill Development; Climate Change,
Resource Conservation, and Open Space and Agricultural Land; Infill
Incentives, Fiscal Need, Revitalization, and the Regional Transportation
Plan; and the Regional Housing and Needs Allocation (RHNA), Housing Cost
and Production, and Affordable Housing.
- Carl Guardino, CEO, Silicon Valley Leadership Group,
presented Their Silicon Valley “Clean and Green” Energy Action Plan and
focused on three of the Initiatives: Cool Commutes: A Competition to
Reduce Greenhouse Gases; CEO/Celebrity Challenge: Cycle-to-Work Day; and
Municipal Practices and Standards for Green Building. Los Gatos Mayor Joe Pirzynski is chairing the Cool Commutes effort and Palo Alto Mayor Yoriko Kishimoto is
leading the effort for cycling to work.
- Discussed Policy Priorities for 2007. The Board chose the
following three issues to focus upon this coming year:
- Climate Protection/Global Warming
- Disaster Preparedness
- Economic Vitality
- The Board will also continue to share best practices of
the 15 cities of the county and to collaborate with the League of
California Cities on their goals for the coming year:
- Infrastructure Bond money expenditures consistent with
needs
- Eminent Domain
- Affordable Housing and keeping up-to-date on rules and
legislation
- The next Cities Association meeting will be a Joint
General Membership meeting with our City Managers on Thursday, March 15 at
6 pm at Michaels at Shoreline Restaurant in Mountain View. All council
members are encouraged to attend. (A reminder: Please get your
reservations in prior to March 7.)
- Member Reports: Members are encouraged to share
information about upcoming events, recent milestones, best practices, etc.
with other Board members. Members reported that State of the City
Addresses would be held in Los Gatos on Feb. 20, Morgan Hill on Feb. 28,
and San Jose on March 7. Gilroy Mayor Al Pinheiro invited everyone to Gilroy’s Downtown Celebration of their newly designed downtown. Dean Chu, League of CA Peninsula Division Vice President announced the Bocce Ball Tournament on April 26.
